Gong, in any of its manifestations, isn't for everyone, but when the Daevid Allen-founded band was really hitting its 'Pataphysical/lysergic groove, it was capable of conjuring real magic, and this collection, defined by the defiant "You Can't Kill Me" as much as it is by the absurdist hippy-dippy stuff, is peak stuff/5(79). Always loved this album. Loved Gong throughout their career (loved seeing Daevid Allen back with the band presenting Gong nine years ago!), but for me, this is their real gem. Yes: the trilogy is grand. Yes: the solo Allen LPs were fine. Yes that Dashiell Hedayat LP was great - Planet Gong too! But this little peach surpasses them all, in /5(79).
Jun 08, · Steve Sutherland savours the thrillingly nutty flavours of this ripe track offering from the multimonikered Aussie musician, as the album is reissued on g vinyl Back in the s, that perpetual scamp and eminent philosopher Bertrand Russell (then well into his 80s) created an analogy to deal with the concept of faith in the existence of God. Feb 06, · Camembert Electrique is an album by Gong, recorded and originally released in The album was recorded at Château d'Hérouville near Paris, France, produced by Pierre Lattès and engineered by Gilles Salle. Jean Karakos (credited in Daevid Allen's liner notes as "Byg Jean Kastro Kornflakes") was executive producer/5(79). Gong Est Mort was originally a double album, now squeezed onto one CD, and the track listing is essentially a retrospective of the best period of Gong's career; it moves gradually and steadily from Camembert Electrique and through the first, second and third parts of the Radio Gnome trilogy, although, of course, in a very abbreviated manner. Essential debut album, 11 tracks inc. 'Can't Kill Me', 'Fohat Digs Holes In Space' etc., original issue with b&w Virgin label. A1 Radio Gnome Prediction A2 You Can't Kill Me A3 I've Bin Stone Before A4 Mister Long Shanks: O Mother, I Am Your Fantasy A5 Dynamite: I Am Your Animal A6 Wet Cheese Delirium B1 Squee. Unfortunately, after the excellent You album Daevid Allen left the band and Gong moved in a jazz rock direction. Although I like the jazz rock phase of Gong, it does not quite compare with the magic of their output, and especially the excellent Camembert Electrique/5(79). Absurd, anarchic and powerfully psychedelic, 'Camembert Electrique' is the first proper Gong album. Originally released in France on BYG Actuel (a Charly label) in , then licensed to a young Richard Branson for his fledgling Virgin label in , this iconic and influential album is still devastatingly fresh-sounding in the 21st century/5(76).
